The Weekenders: A Novel

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Mary Kay Andrews

Narrated By: Kathleen McInerney

Date: May 2016

Duration: 15 hours 28 minutes

Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and “the weekenders” can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found.

So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.

Told with Mary Kay Andrews’ trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can’t help but fall for, The Weekenders is the perfect summer escape.

One of the worst and longest books ever. I thought it would be more suspenseful. The mystery was wrapped up very quickly at the end after a lot of "filler". I did not like the characters. Maggie the daughter was horrible.

  • Shannon Long

Well read book, which made for an enjoyable listen. Good easy story line to follow.

  • Christina Boyd

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, well narrated and good story line. Easy listening and definitely a great travel companion on a long bus trip

  • Briahna Taylor

Great book - for lovers of Elin Hildebrand - this gets close to her storylines/writing.

  • Lynn Detering

Really enjoyed book. Good listening while not bogging you down with names and places you can't remember from chapter to chapter. Keeps you entertained from beginning to end

I really liked listening to this book, it was a good book to get your mind off things and perfect for a solo road trip ;)

Entertaining. While it's not great literature, it's better than most beach books. I could relate to Riley because I have a friend whose husband turned out to be a swindler. It's hard to deal with your anger, the daughter's grief, and the town's pity. But I think a good lawyer could have kept her home off the auction block. Excellent narration.

Another great book by one of my favorite authors! A relaxing summer read that was fun, light, and a real page turner.
