Summary
'[A] huge and sprawling tale of horror.' —The New York Times Book Review

Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches—a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women.

Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale that challenges everything we believe in.

I know and love the book, off course - so to have it read is hard, as you know what it's like, you've created the characters in your head and the sound of them...... but this narrator is magnificent! I give her my best of recommendations!! I feel as if the story is told by all the characters; she understands the story, she makes it even more tangible and interesting! she speaks English, American with Dutch accent, with Irish sound and sing - and she makes me believe the passages told by a doctor!! She is truly a narrator!

Loved it!!!! Had to re-read it before I watched the AMC series. Both are well done. Can’t wait to start the 2nd book in the series.

I did enjoy the witch story but some of the other stuff wasn't my cup of tea. It couldn't seem to make up it's mind if it was a good witch mystery or a try to be 50 shades of grey!

I forgot Anne Rice can suck you into a story so much. I haven’t listen to her in a long time but, oh man, this was a great book.

Her beautiful use of language in describing a family's generational heartbreak, loss, and tragic stories of loved ones that resonates long after the last page is read.

Good story, good narration. It kept my attention, and that's pretty good for an over-50 hour story
