Bill Stokes, born in Barron, Wisconsin, began his writing career as an outdoor writer for Stevens Point Daily Journal. He went on to write for many years at the Wisconsin State Journal, the Milwaukee Journal, and the Chicago Tribune before retiring to pursue freelance work. His work has appeared in many national publications, among them Reader's Digest, Outdoor Life, and Sports Afield. He has compiled three anthologies of his newspaper writing and authored two children's books.
