CARLOTTA WALLS LaNIER stepped into history at age fourteen, when she became the youngest of the Little Rock Nine--the nine students chosen to integrate Little Rock Central High School. She attended Michigan State University and graduated from Colorado State College (now the University of Northern Colorado), where she sits on the board of trustees. After working for the YWCA, she founded the real estate brokerage firm LaNier and Co. in 1977. LaNier is a sought-after lecturer and has received the Congressional Gold Medal. She is a mother of two and currently resides in Englewood, Colorado, with her husband.
