B. Abell Jurus, the 'Mother Superior' of San Diego's writing community, opened the Writers' Bookstore & Haven and founded the Southern California Writers' Conference. After hearing former Navy SEAL Gene Wentz's war stories, she offered to write Men in Green Faces with him. The book became a classic Vietnam War novel. Jurus died in 2015.
